Week 1 Thoughts - College Football

Pitt winning the Backyard Brawl was a nice start to the season. Not sure how I feel about either team going forward, it was quite the battle of recovering USC backup QB’s playing elsewhere. Signs of the times.

Ohio State survived. Still so much talent under-coached by Ryan Day and his staff. Only a matter of time before it catches up with them.

Tough start to the season for the state of Utah. Utah State was coming off a magical 2021 only to be shutout by Alabama. Meanwhile, the Utah hype train was completely derailed by a few gators in the tracks.

UC’s perfect regular season dreams were squashed by what some may consider a very underrated Arkansas team.

NC State’s bid for the school’s first 10-win season remains alive after escaping ECU. ECU had multiple chances at the end, my heart and prayers goes out to ECU’s kicker.

UNC and Mack Brown escaped Boone, NC without any defense. I supposed if you have Drake Maye there’s really no need for a defense. I still don’t understand how Mack Brown actually wins in today’s CFB.

Army losing at Coastal Carolina is pretty costly to some owners who thought Army had one of the easier schedules in FBS.

Speaking of easy schedules Houston needed 3OT’s to knock off UTSA.

Virginia Tech should avoid Norfolk for while, except that part where they signed a multiyear agreement to face ODU a few more times. Always take the stairs.

The SEC turned in a strong start to non-conference play. UGA cruised past the Ducks. UT and UK rolled. Miss St. handled a competitive Memphis squad. Even Vandy had back-to-back wins to start the season!

Finally, TCU and Arizona picked up some nice under the radar road wins for non-conference play.
