Week 14 Observations

Week 14, more commonly referred to as Championship Saturday, delivered quite the punch starting on Friday night. Utah beating USC brought tears to Buckeye fans around the globe as Christmas may have come early!

The dream season for TCU was not meant to be as KSU clipped them in OT. If you recall in our pre season draft guides we were the only media outlet to pick KSU to win the Big 12. We felt pretty strong that the Big 12 would be wide open this year and certainly believed KSU deserved the shot and they proved us right! (See receipt here)

Speaking of dream seasons, how about Tulane? They went from 2-10 last year to 11-2 heading most likely to the Goodyear Cotton Bowl classic on January 2nd! But how did they do it? They had the conference’s best defense all year and made everyone a believer. Our system was quick to pick up on this strong statistically defensive unit that was complemented by an explosive offense led by Junior QB Michael Pratt. HC Willie Fritz deserves every accolade under the sun as he led the turnaround in his 7th season at Tulane. HC Fritz is someone who started at the bottom and has had to scrape for every big jump in his career. Let’s hope he stays at Tulane and builds on this momentum for the program.

Toledo knocking off Ohio in the MAC Championship was a nice way to end a pretty rough season for Toledo. They were expected to win 9+ games but finished the season 8-5. Ohio finishes the season at 9-3 while going 6-0 at home this season, very impressive.

Fresno State won their third outright MWC Championship knocking off Boise State. With the win Fresno improved their overall record to 9-4 and most likely will play in the Los Angeles Bowl against a team most likely from the PAC-12.

Beyond that Michigan took care of Purdue and Clemson handled UNC quite easily. Oh, and in a real shocker Georgia smashed LSU to seal their number 1 ranking for the season! The top 4 playoff teams are most likely looking like Georgia, Michigan, TCU, and _______. Who do you think deserves that fourth spot?
